Eowave Ribbon 2 is a USB MIDI and CV/Gate controller and a 12-bit digital synthesizer. The instrument's user interface consists of a pressure-sensitive, 50-centimeter-long position sensor for playing notes and a pressure-sensitive modulation field. Internal sound generation, scaling and sensitivity of the Ribbon 2 can be edited with a freely available software from the manufacturer Eowave. There are also 16 memory locations available for storing presets.
Use as digital synthesizerThe internal 12-bit sound generation can reproduce standard waveforms, noise, but also simple additive, granular and bell algorithms. These can be directly controlled with AM and FM options via the modulation field. Added to this are a bit reduction and an echo effect. The audio signal is output via the mini jack socket.
Use as controllerIf the Ribbon 2 is used as controller, the mini jack connector is used to output two control voltages. CV1 is measured by position sensor and outputs generated pitch control voltage according to the standard 1V/octave (play range: 0 V to 5 V). CV2 generates a control voltage due to the pressure sensitivity of the position sensor or modulation field. MIDI data can also be generated with ribbon 2. They are transferred via USB port.
