With the "True Historic" Les Paul, you are as close to the original as never before!
"Historic Select" are explicitly selected models with special qualities discovered by Edwin Wilson and Tom Murphy.
Murphy is well known in the guitar scene: as co-initiator of the Custom Shop program in the early 90ies and his work on the aging process of selected LPR models. Wilson has become the specialist for wood selection and is primarily responsible for the researches of the originals who are used for the CC program.
The Custom Shop has proven that it can build Les Paul guitars with the characteristics and features every collector, aficionado and active player is looking for.
With the meticulous examination of the original instruments for CC series, the guitar makers in Nashville gained a lot of new knowledge. The result is the discontinuation of the R-series in 2015, the reissue models from the years 52 to 60.
For the "True Historic" models, the selection of materials and production process has been decisively improved.
For the neck, the fretboard and the tops, Gibson uses "Hot Hide Glue", a special hot bone glue which hardens to glass strength. This feature is considered crucial for a great Les Paul, just like the quality of wood and the "Long Tenon Neck".
The "Double Carve" of the top means that after the CNC preparation, there is also post processing by hand. Especially the edges are given a more harmonic shape. The ultra thin nitro lacquer undergoes a wet intermediate sanding. The result is the feel of a well aged and maintained original.
Gibson paid just as much attention to the True Historic 1958 Les Paul's electronics as they did to its aesthetics. The Custom Bucker have differently wound coils with authentic wire and have the fitting cap in dimension and material to make the entire pickup just like an original P.A.F.
Gibson even analyzed the vintage plastics down to the molecular level to ensure accurate reproductions. From the "Poker Chip" down to the "Pub Ring", the parts do not only look like the original, they are made from the same material.
