IK Multimedia presents with this software an impressive hardware emulation of the worldwide popular Tascam Porta One tape recorder, which has given countless pieces of music a special character and still does today! The "standard" settings alone ensure a warm and clear sound, while the Porta One is nowadays often used to create lo-fi sounds, creative effects and even live performances. Generated this sound of the Hardware by using two types of cartridges. Type I and Type II can now be easily selected in the plug-in and used creatively. Other key features of the software include:
Even perfectly aligned tape recorders have slight differences in level, EQ, and distortion between the right and left channels, which is part of the nature of analog recording. The software recreates these subtle differences to give you a 1-to-1 experience of the real thing. If needed, this feature can be easily disabled.
The speed of the tape transport can be changed to provide either more fidelity or a warmer, rounder sound.
This is where the behavior of the mechanical transport is precisely modeled to reproduce the small irregularities in the movement of the tape that lead to sonic changes. However, it is also possible to bypass this effect if you prefer a more natural sound processing.
Record BiasIdeal bias voltage settings provide maximum sensitivity and low distortion. Deliberate overdriving is a common technique to create a warmer, slightly saturated sound. Underbiasing can be used to uniquely boost high frequencies and add distortion and other non-linear effects.
Like all of IK's T-RackS plug-ins, the Porta One plug-in can be used as a standalone app or within T-RackS 5. The latter allows you to combine it with other effects and mix and master even faster - perfect for creating your own workflow with your favorite tools. It's a unique modular system that can connect up to 16 processors in series or parallel. And it does so at up to 192 kHz/32-bit floating point.
