The Rupert Neve Designs 5060 Centerpiece is a 24x2 mixer designed to fit onto a desktop and giving access to many features found on the RND flagship 5088 console. The Centerpiece can be utilised as a DAW controller and, as its name suggests, is happiest when in the middle of a scalable digital/analogue system. Used with the recommended Neve 5059 mixers and Portico modules, channel control and amplification/dynamics are handled by those specialist units whilst the 5060 Centerpiece brings everything together.
The 5060 Centerpiece uses a Class-A mix buss, custom transformers and variable Silk options, allowing for a wide range of tonal impressions. Driving the mix buss hard in conjunction with a generous application of the Texture control (which determines the amount of Silk in the signal) results in a vintage-style saturation, often heard on recordings now regarded as classics. Silk adds harmonic context as a texture by reducing the negative feedback on the output transformer – two kinds of Silk can be selected, Red Silk (high and high-mid saturation) and Blue Silk (low and low-mid saturation). Engaging these effects gives the 5060 an output similar to Rupert Neve classic design equipment. The effect can be exaggerated further with the inclusion of the aforementioned 5059 satellite mixers and layering Silk and Texture sends.
