The Madrid-based manufacturer Tierra Audio presents the Tierra Audio Model Cocoa, an interesting series of 7 pocket-sized preamps. The devices have their own tone and can be used with standard phantom power in front of a microphone preamplifier as a booster for dynamic moving coils or ribbons like SM7-B, RE20 or Royer R-10. All Tierra Audio products are developed and handmade in a small factory in the Spanish capital. Only selected components are used and the manufacturer stands out from the sea of clone forges with its own eco-guideline.
Cocoa thickens mightilyIf you want to get a fat sound out of your dynamic microphone without a lot of studio equipment or plug-in tinkering, you are well equipped with the Cocoa model. The Preamp adds smooth-sounding harmonics to your signal and pleasantly rounds out transients without robbing your track of dynamics. Especially in mixes with few tracks it can turn out to be a real secret weapon: Acoustic guitar sounds rich and with a lot of body in the bass range, vocals are brought to the front and get a noble touch full of warmth. Other acoustic instruments also benefit enormously, especially when working with ribbon microphones!
