Zildjian GEN16 Digital Cymbal Processor AEDCP, 5 Channel Controller

In the world of e-drums, dominated mostly by plastic and electronics, Zildjian is bringing back a bit of tradition with help from the Gen 16 cymbals. Instead of the use of rubber coatings, plastic foam or anything else to ensure a quiet address, the Gen 16 cymbals are real cymbals and like their acoustic counter-parts are made of metal. To reduce the sound level the Gen 16 cymbals are perforated with a dense, organized pattern of tiny holes. These holes break the otherwise relatively large surface area of a conventional cymbal, making the cymbals much quieter without losing their realistic playability. The sound is picked-up by special microphone sensors, and is then sent to the Digital Cymbal Processor.

The Digital Cymbal Processor from Zildjian makes up the heart of the AE Cymbal System. 5 cymbal inputs in total deliver 5 separate channels with 20 sound presets each. In no time at all with the simple push of a button the sounds of each cymbal can be adapted instantly to fit to any situation with the integrated DSP engine. Headphone In and Outputs as well as diverse other connections make the Digital Cymbal Processor the perfect sound tool for any E-Drummer. The system is super easy to use. Each channel is equipped with volume, R/L pan and preset select. Four master level controls are available for the headphone volume, master reverb, master audio out and the blend of the AE system and an electronic kit.

The AE system is not a trigger system. The microphone sensors deliver audio signals and not MIDI data. As result it is not possible to use this system to trigger sound effects or other samples. As the cymbals are real cymbals, they play like real cymbals delivering authentic playability that can not be matched by synthetic pads. The same is true for the sound, no triggers and therefore no worries about accuracy. What you hear is the vibration of the metal, picked-up by special microphone sensors which are sure to present interesting recording possibilities.
