With the MIDI Looper, Bastl Instruments introduces a performance-oriented device that records MIDI notes and controllers on three tracks and plays them back in an endless loop. Via MIDI you can play a two-bar bass accompaniment, which (if desired) is quantized and played back in an endless loop. After that you play a chord sound on the second channel, which stretches over eight bars and you also turn the filter. Both happens in real time and you have access to different parameters like double or half playback tempo, variation of velocity, transpose or shuffle. Thanks to the built-in metronome with audio output, the MIDI Looper can work independently- via analogue clock input and MIDI it can also be used with other equipment like a modular system. The latter, or even synthesizers that only accept CV/Gate benefit from the CV/Gate output of the MIDI Looper, which makes it in part an interface between the analog and the digital world.
With the new OS 1.1 the functionality of the MIDI Looper has increased significantly. The device is now "class compliant" and no longer needs its own drivers when connected to the computer. It now also receives MIDI notes and clock via USB. Channel aftertouch is also supported. Individual "Undo" per channel and action, which includes record, delete and undo. Loop length can be set in 1-step lengths per channel.
In addition to minor bug fixes, there are a few corrections that improve the workflow and handling and make it more logical in parts. These concern the recalculation of shuffle and velocity, the realignment of loops after changing length and stretch, the analogue reset input now works with all clock sources, stretch no longer affects the metronome, all settings are saved in the pattern.
