The Rupert Neve Designs RNDI is an active DI-Box with custom transformers from Mr.Rupert Neve himself. They were developed with the intention to be the best DI-Box of them all, transmitting the full harmonic depth of the instrument and amplifier to which it is connected.
When developing this DT box, Rupert Neve had the intention not only to have the signal isolated and made symmetrical, but also to transmit the signal without compromising the liveliness and sound of the instrument. It delivers a powerful, dynamic direct sound which reproduces the full harmonic depth of basses, guitars, acoustic instruments and professional line level signals. Both of the key elements of the RNDI are the Rupert Neve Custom transformers and the discrete FET amplifiers that are precisely tuned to one another. The lower frequencies are transmitted with power and strength and the high frequencies are clear, present and soft with a frequency range of over 100kHz.
In the instrument mode with its +21.5dBU of headroom, the RNDI can handle instruments as well as Line Level sources such as interfaces, CD players and drum machines. This capability makes it possible to use the RNDI as a kind of “Re-Preamp”, send pre-recorded tracks through better or more characteristic preamps. In the speaker mode, the RNDI can deal with signals from amplifiers with up to 1000 Watt, in order to capture the great sound of the instrument, preamp, the EQ, the inserts and the output section before it reaches the speakers. This option is particularly advantageous when the RNDI is used together with modern speaker emulation plug-ins. In this case the user has the flexibility of digital modelling as well as the sound characteristics of a genuine analog amplifier.
