Maton guitars, the undisputed champion of the Australian Guitar Maker’s Premier League, are the first choice for many of world’s best guitarists. Established in 1946 by Bill May, Maton have a long guitar making tradition that belongs among the oldest of the world. Furthermore, being the distance that it is away from the mother land of acoustic guitars- the USA, helped in developing a unique concept.

For the most part Australian timber, such as Queensland Maple, Queensland Walnut, Australian Black wood and as an alternative to cedar or spruce- Bunya, a very hard wood, that only grows in Australia, are used in the production of the top. The Necks are made exclusively from Queensland Maple. This very hard and often aesthetically unspectacular wood is an important corner stone in producing the irreplaceably clear and percussive Maton sound, which is treasured by music professionals, such as Tommy Emmanuel and Michael Fix, the world over.

A special focal point has been placed on the amplification of the acoustic sound, and that’s why only pick ups created by Maton Guitars are trusted in their instruments. The instrument, preamp and the pickups are perfectly suited and purposely designed to compliment each other. That is the only way to produce a guitar with a dynamic and powerful sound, even by very loud volumes, such as those from Maton.
