Moog System Iiip

The original Moog Synthesizer was released in the late 1960s and completely changed the landscape for music production and sound design. With the latest release of the Moog Synthesizer IIIp, you can now own a little piece of synth history completely handcrafted from the original documentation, art and circuit board files.

The IIIp consists of thirty-seven hand-wired and hand-soldered discrete modules, which are mounted by hand into three solid wood, tolex wrapped cabinets by the expert staff at the Moog Factory in Asheville, NC. Included are the classic 984 Matrix Mixer, 905 Spring Reverb and ten 901 series audio oscillators.

During in the 60s, the first models of the Moog Synthesizer were the result of design conversations with over 100 composers and innovators of electronic music who were used to working in the “classical studio” method. “Classic Studio” was a rather clunky way of working and not the most user-friendly format, utilizing surplus telecommunications devices, radio equipment and early tape machines to generate sounds. Moog was working on a way to combine all those elements into a single modular unit more intuitive to the common musician.

By 1967, Bob Moog and his small team of technicians were beginning to take order and hand-building the Synthesizer I in a storefront in Trumansburg, NY. With the introduction of the Synthesizer IIIc (“c” referring to the now standard cabinet design), musicians, producers and engineers could now purchase pre-configured modules with all the sounds (and more) they were used to using in “Classic Studio”.

The IIIc wasn't the most portable of devices, which led Moog to create the classic IIIp, a fully portable version of the IIIc designed with three separate cabinets. The result was something so cutting edge it shaped the changed the way music has been produced for over 50 years. For a limited time, a faithful recreation of the IIIp is now available for the modern music producer.
